Leap-day Sunrise

Tangerine light
filters through a
frost-patterned window,
dissolves the last
lingering stars
from night's
faded backdrop.
A stream awakens,
quietly giggles
beneath its
icy quilt.
An amber
tallgrass gospel choir
sways and
shimmers its
morning hymn.
Flames of
tropical sunshine
dance across the
frozen prairie,
heralding the
start of this
rare day.
